Average home prices in Anchorage generally have increased steadily since the early 1990s, according to Alaska Multiple Listing Service, which tracks sales.

For April, the average home price was $282,053, a slight drop from March but a substantial jump from April 2004, when home prices averaged $249,891, according to MLS. In April 2003, homes averaged $228,026. Home prices exclude condos and mobile homes.

During the past year, home sales appeared steady, with between 200 and 322 properties sold each month. Sales were highest during the summer of 2004.
